RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND in GREENSBORO, NC on MAY 18th, 2013
If you are a Raleigh Rugby member or a sports fan of rugby or just looking for a fun weekend in general, you are definitely in luck as this Saturday May 18th promises to be a major rugby event and just a short hop down the road to Greensboro, NC.
Not only is Greensboro the site for the USA Rugby Men’s D1A College Championship to be played this weekend, it is also the site for the NCYRU Finals Day for the U19 Divisions and the Carolina Cup Finals for the U15, U13, U11 and U9 youth divisions. ESPN3 and ESPNU will be covering the national championship event at 7pm.
Full day of rugby! Let’s get a great Raleigh crowd to the events! Meet the players, coaches and parents who all contribute to this great club.
10:00am – Copperheads U9, U11 and U13
The day will kick off with youth rugby matches for those wonderful U9, U11 and U13 Copperheads to decide the Carolina Cup winners for each division. Matches should convene at 2pm. They are fun to watch and they all return as defending Carolina Cup champions.
These matches will take place at Oka T. Hester Park (Hester Park) located at 3615 Deutzia St. in Greensboro, NC 27407. Directions:http://www.greensboro-nc.gov/index.aspx?page=1201
11:30am – Rattlesnakes U19
The Raleigh Rattlesnakes U19 team has had an exciting year. They played the very best teams in the state to the wire in each match and if not for injuries and missing players would have again been in the championship match. They take on the always tough opponent U19 Triad Dogs at the UNCG Soccer Stadium with the winner taking 3rd place for the state of NC. This is also the last match for some very memorable seniors in Garrett Murphy (NC State), Jared Garcia (Life University) and Jacob Milchuck (Furman University) to name a few. Let’s get out and show them our support for all of their years of service and contribution to the club. The UNC-G Soccer Stadium is located at 1408 Walker Ave Greensboro, NC 27403.

** After the U19 match, Coach Milchuck is setting up a designated meeting place for all Raleigh Rugby members for a Tailgate Special. The setup is currently Lot # 9 at the stadium and of course this will be a great place to congregate and get some tasty concessions such as Brats, Chicken Phillies and Fries all while helping the RRFC to raise funds. Bring your folding chairs and coolers, grab a Philly and hang out with club members. Hope to see you there!
1:30pm – Union County U19 versus Charlotte U19 for the NCYRU Championship 2013
The top rated teams in the High School Club Division take each other on for the U19 championship. Raleigh scared the lights out of both of these teams taking them to the wire. This should be a great match to watch!
3:15pm – U15 Rattlesnakes
Great season for the U15 Rattlesnakes this year, so much that they are playing in the final match versus the South Charlotte Irish to determine the Carolina Cup Champion for 2013. Be sure and congratulate all the players and Coach Niemiller on a fantastic showing this season. This is a great matchup between the two teams and will also be played at the UNC-G Soccer Stadium located in the heart of campus at 1408 Walker Ave Greensboro, NC 27403
