No Mercy: Venom obliterate Frederick 95-0

After a solid win against a Norfolk team it hadn’t beaten in years, the Raleigh Venom decimated another league foe and appears to be the class of its league after a 95-0 win over Frederick (Md.).

Frederick just moved up from DIII this season, and Raleigh welcomed their new guests rudely, although it took time to hit full steam. Coaches told the team it was their strongest team effort in some time, a performance that bodes well for them as their record in league play improves to 3-0.

The first of many tries came in the 6th minute from Janee Cadlett, playing in her first match of rugby. She would add another try in the 48th minute.

Even after the first try, the Venom took about 15 minutes to gear up to full speed, but once there they did it proved far more than the overmatched visitors could handle.

Jenn Larrimore earned back of the match honors for a number of breaks and for helping set up some other tries as Raleigh’s superior team speed resulted in plenty of long sprints to paydirt.

Sara Lundy’s aggression in the pack, particularly on tackles, resulted in her being named the team’s top forward. She led a pack that dominated set pieces and set the physical tone of the match.

The Venom visit Maryland Stingers next weekend before their week off.
