Raleigh Rugby Football Club has always stood together through times of need. It is this unique community quality that makes rugby one of the greatest sports of all time, and this club one that we are all proud to be a part of. So many of us have had our lives touched in different ways by Raleigh Rugby and its community, from our youth touch and tackle teams through to Vipers, Venom and vibrant Old Boys’ and Girls’ networks. While we may not be able to unite on the pitch in this trying time, we can certainly come together to galvanize all parts of our community and support each other.
To assist our Raleigh Rugby family, we have put together a COVID19 Assistance Fund and Request for Help. Our goal is to ensure that those in our community who are in need, get the help they require. This may mean individuals who are affected by work and school closures, those who are at higher risk and must stay out of grocery stores or pharmacies, or others who are enduring financial or physical hardships due to this pandemic.
As Sir John Kirwan once said,
“I often say rugby’s like life. You can have the ball in your hand and be running down the field feeling unstoppable. Then someone tackles you and you hit the deck and you’re vulnerable; you’re lying there exposed. Suddenly your team-mates are there, not just over the ball but over you, protecting you. They’re prepared to put their bodies on the line for you. That’s what happens in life: you fall over and your mates come to your aid.”
